Our out-of-school time (OST) programs empower children to maximize their potential by focusing on their Social Emotional and Character Development (SECD).
To help children and youth proactively manage their emotions, behaviors, relationships and life’s challenges in order to become thriving, caring and impactful members of our society.
Teaching our children how thoughts and emotions affect their behavior so they can constructively manage themselves and achieve their goals.
Helping our children understand different personalities, backgrounds and perspectives in order to empathize with others and build relationships through effective communication and collaboration.
Encouraging our children to make decisions that benefit themselves and those around them.
SEL is one of the main pillars of our programs. We follow CASEL’s framework and core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
These have been taught by many states and countries and have proven to promote “academic success, school and civic engagement, health and wellness, and fulfilling careers.”
Our second pillar, CD, is the process in which we cognitively, emotionally and behaviorally teach kids to be ethical, responsible and caring individuals. Character development is comprised of two parts:

Through empowering schools, teachers, parents, and volunteers to help us build and customize the right programs for our children, we achieve a real sense of accomplishment through meaningful collaboration.

Discover and Grow is a nonprofit founded in New York City by passionate advocates of change. Our out-of-school time (OST) programs empower children to maximize their potential by focusing on their Social Emotional and Character Development (SECD).
Our programs combine a safe and collaborative environment with enriching and engaging activities that provide the skills, knowledge and mindset to help them succeed in life while also learning to be positive members of society.
We work with schools and community organizations in order to implement SECD in their curriculum and day-to-day life.
